How to find the perfect typeface for your website
Picking the best typeface for your website can make a huge difference:
- Fonts affect the readability of your content.
- Fonts have a powerful impact on your visitors by conveying your brand’s personality.
Fonts can add fun, luxury, elegance, professionalism - you name it. Good web design is only complete with the matching typeface.
So, how do you find the perfect typeface for your website, then? If you are working with a web designer, this will be part of the project. She or he will be making sure to pick fonts that beautifully enhance your web design and convey your overall branding.
When you are redoing your website on your own, I have compiled all my favourite font resources for you. Some are for free. For others, you will pay a couple of Euros, which I highly recommend when you are looking for something more unique and individualized, like typefaces for logos or H1 headings.
These are my favourite resources to find excellent font pairing for your website:
- Creative Market
Browse over 42,000 fonts (paid). Creative Market features hand-drawn, brush, and vector letterforms, along with extra character sets and embellishments for headers, text, and display. Their fonts are perfect to use for your logo or main headings.
To make it easier for you, Canva arranged a list of 30 font pairings that might be a great place if you are just starting to look into fonts and unsure what you like.
- Google Fonts
Download hundreds of fonts for free.
Independent typography resource that helps you choose the perfect font combination and features web fonts and font recommendations.
Free Google Font pairs, free, open-source typography.
- Adobe Fonts
Hundreds of fonts, search by tags—an online service that offers a subscription library of fonts. The fonts may be used directly on websites or synced via Adobe Cloud if you don't like that, still a great resource to search.
