Favourite serif fonts for websites
Over the next couple of weeks, I want to show you my favourite serif and non-serif fonts for your website.
The importance of typefaces for your website
Typography plays such an important role in how your website is perceived, that fonts should be at the forefront of the design process. As I was beginning with web design, I put a lot of focus on colours and images - and whilst they are very significant when it comes to great branding - typefaces were like an afterthought for me. With time, I got way more creative and bold with using different fonts and realized just how much impact they have on designing a unique website. Nowadays, I like to use a special typeface for the logo and H1 heading, to support the unique branding of my client and then either a serif or non-serif font for additional headings and mostly non-serif fonts for running text for best readability.
When choosing a professional font for your website, it’s also vital to ensure they’re readable, user-friendly and web-safe—meaning they work across all browsers and devices.
On Serif Fonts
Over the last few months, I fell more and more in love with using serif fonts in my web design projects. They have just this beautiful classic, timeless and slightly feminine quality, making it a perfect choice for websites with a female audience. The simple elegance of a universal classic serif font never fails.
Here are my 5 favourite serif google fonts for your website:
- Cormorant Garamond
- Nanum Myeongjo
- Newsreader Light
- Playfair Display
- Noto Serif JP extra light
